General FAQ

Can custom users add hosts to organizations?

No. Only system administrator users can set up Hyper-V monitoring. Custom users cannot see the Virtualization tab under the organization editor.

I'm trying to add a new host, but can't click the Add button. Why not?

This is likely because you have not yet successfully tested the host. Click Test and ensure that you see a message indicating success in the bottom left corner of the window.

What are the requirements for a machine to be selected as the delegate?

Delegate machines must have the NinjaOne agent installed, be online and connected to the NinjaOne console, belong to the organization you are attempting to add a host to, and have Hyper-V installed. Hyper-V can be installed or enabled on Windows servers (external) or Windows 10 machines (external).

How do "device down" conditions work for Hyper-V monitoring?

In situations where just the host goes down, the device down condition from the Hyper-V Host policy will trigger (if configured).

In situations where the delegate goes down (and in turn the host goes down), the device down condition from the Windows Server or Workstation policy will trigger (if configured).

Therefore, we recommend configuring device down conditions for both the delegate (in the Windows Server or Workstation policy) and the host (in the Hyper-V Host policy).

Why can't I change the organization or location to which a host or guest belongs?

The host's organization assignment is derived from the delegate's organization, and the guest's organization is also derived from the host. If you want to change the organization for the devices, you'll need to change it for their delegate.

Hyper-V FAQ

Select a question to view the answer:

When I delete a VM from NinjaOne (either from the Hyper-V host's VM List or the Hyper-V guest), does this delete it from the Hyper-V server?

Yes.

How can I remove a Hyper-V host (and the associated VMs) from my NinjaOne environment without deleting them from the Hyper-V server?

Remove the Hyper-V host from the organization settings.

To do so, navigate to the organization editor for the organization under which the Hyper-V host is, open the Virtualization tab, and then remove the listed host. This will break the link between the monitoring delegate and the host, removing the host and associated VMs from your NinjaOne environment.

What values are being displayed for CPU and memory for Hyper-V Guests?

The CPU value displays the ratio of the vCPUs assigned to this Hyper-V Guest machine vs. the overall CPU resources available at the host level. The Memory value displays the memory allocated (static number) by the Hyper-V Host to this Guest machine.

VMWare FAQ

Select a question to view the answer:

What datastore types does NinjaOne support for VMware virtualization monitoring?

Currently, NinjaOne's VM agent only supports datastore types for Network Attached Storage (NAS) and Virtual Machine File System (VMFS).

What versions of VMware ESXi does NinjaOne's virtualization agent support?

NinjaOne's VMware agent supports versions 6.0 through ESXi 8.1 inclusive.

When I delete a VM from the NinjaOne UI (either from the VMware host's VM List or from the VMware guest), does this delete it from the ESXi server?

Yes.

How can I remove a VMware host (and the associated VMs) from my NinjaOne environment without deleting them from the ESXi server?

Remove the VMware host from the organization settings. To do so, navigate to the organization editor for the organization under which the VMware host is in question, select the Virtualization tab, and then remove the listed host. This will break the link between the monitoring delegate and the host, which in turn will remove the host and associated VMs from your NinjaOne environment.

Which sensors does the VMware host agent monitor?

The host monitors the following sensors:

  • Fans
  • Battery
  • Chassis
  • Storage
  • Temperature
  • Power
  • WatchDog
  • Voltage
  • System
  • System Management
  • Processors
  • Editor
  • Reminder
  • Management Subsystem Health
  • Cable connection

Is NinjaOne's VMware monitoring compatible with vCenter?

No. VMware monitoring is currently only compatible with ESXi (versions 6.0 through 8.0).
