Frequently-Asked Questions (FAQ)

This section provides a list of questions about NinjaOne Remote that are commonly asked by customers, and the answers provided by our support team. Click a question linked below to review the answer.

Why can't I open text files in a live remote session?

When Notepad runs on a new device for the first time, a dialog will display to notify you that Notepad includes auto-save and session restore tools. This one-time dialog prompts you to click OK to acknowledge the changes. After you click OK, you can open the text file.

Why does the NCStreamer download but not install the service?

This issue may be due to a broken environment variable for OPENSSL_CONF, which causes a failed connection. Remove the variable to resolve the issue.

Why does the chat window keep closing?

By default, NinjaOne minimizes the chat window, displaying only a flashing icon to indicate a new message. This minimization reduces disruption to the technician's workflow. You can change this setting in the Advanced Settings window.

How many simultaneous connections does NinjaOne support?

NinjaOne Remote supports up to three simultaneous connections. A powerful CPU and a dedicated GPU can support additional screen share instances. Conversely, if an application consumes one of the screenshare instances, the number of available instances could drop below three.

Can I use my mobile browser to log into NinjaOne and connect to a device using NinjaOne Remote?

We do not recommend launching remote connections via your mobile browser, and our software does not support it. Use the mobile app whenever possible.

Are there any limitations to using NinjaOne Remote with Apple silicon devices?

There are no limitations. The "M" series chips work with NinjaOne Remote.

Does NinjaOne Remote work over a proxy?

NinjaOne Remote supports SOCKS5, HTTP, and HTTPS proxies. We do not recommend using HTTP proxies, since this protocol lacks the encryption of HTTPS.

Is the NinjaOne Remote software automatically deployed to devices that have the NinjaOne agent installed? If not, when will this software be deployed?

NinjaOne does not deploy NinjaOne Remote software to an endpoint until the first attempt to establish a connection via NinjaOne Remote for the machine. Therefore, the first connection attempt to a machine may take slightly longer to establish a connection than subsequent sessions.

For Apple macOS devices, what will the NinjaOne Remote streamer application be listed as when granting permissions in the Security and Privacy settings?

The NinjaOne Remote lists the streamer as "ncstreamer."

Does NinjaOne Remote have the ability to do UDP hole-punching?

Technicians may use the TCP + UDP link to speed up the remote connection.

If I initiate a reboot (either regularly or with safe mode) through NinjaOne Remote, will I be automatically reconnected to the machine when it boots back up?

Yes, however, you must initiate the reboot through NinjaOne Remote to be reconnected on boot.

Does NinjaOne log connection attempts with NinjaOne Remote?

Yes. NinjaOne logs activity entries for NinjaOne Remote sessions that are requested, started, and terminated.

Can I use NinjaOne Remote as an option for remote connections via the NinjaOne Desktop Companion?

Yes. For more information, refer to our NinjaOne Desktop Companion Application article.

How long will NinjaOne Remote connections last?

NinjaOne Remote connections last for days, so devices can function and work as needed.

How do I transfer files with NinjaOne Remote?

NinjaOne Remote offers a file transfer tool as one of the native session options. However, you can transfer files using drag and drop or copy and paste.

When performing a file transfer, why are technicians unable to interact with the NinjaOne Remote session until the file transfer completes?

When you start a remote session, NinjaOne directs all available bandwidth toward file transfers and pauses user input for the remote session until the file transfer is complete. This process applies to the file transfer window and the drag-and-drop file transfer option.

Does NinjaOne provide silent install and uninstall parameters for the NinjaOne Remote EXE installer?

Yes. You can use the following arguments to manage the installation or removal of NinjaOne Remote from the terminal:

-showEULA - to print EULA to the terminal window
-silentAndAcceptEULA - to install without GUI in silent mode and accept EULA
-rm-parameter for uninstaller to silently remove existing installation.

Ensure that you run the NinjaOne Remote EXE installer as a local or domain administrator.

Why can't I copy and paste from the clipboard when connected to a Hyper-V Virtual Machine?

For Server 2012 R2 and later, and Windows 8.1 and later, ensure that enhanced session mode is activated. Refer to Microsoft Ignite: Share Devices With Your Virtual Machine (external link) for more information.

Can NinjaOne Remote switch between active sessions on an RDS or Terminal server?

NinjaOne Remote allows moving between active sessions hosted on RDS or Terminal servers as long as the server has a GUI. To do so, use the silhouette icon in the application.

Is there a limit on the number of devices a technician can remotely access?

No. However, a maximum of three technicians can remotely access a device.

Does NinjaOne Remote work on the new Windows ARM-based computers?

Yes.

Can we remove the option for end users to power a device off in NinjaOne Remote?

Not at this time, but it is in the roadmap. No workarounds currently exist.

Is it expected behavior that, during file transfer, I'm unable to perform any actions?

Yes. NinjaOne Remote uses all available bandwidth to expedite file transfers.

Why is the quality bad when I use NinjaOne Remote on a monitor in vertical mode?

Images and text always adjust to the player's size. To solve this issue, deactivate Scale to fit or rotate the monitor on the player device's side.

Does NinjaOne Remote support multiple connections on terminal servers (each user would have their own session)?

No. NinjaOne Remote does not currently support multiple connections. You can switch to any active user session, but all remote connections will view the same user session.

Why is NinjaOne Remote stuck on the "Connection Established" screen when connecting to a device?

You must add the NinjaOne Remote streamer as a trusted application, as this is a permission issue.

Does NinjaOne Remote have USB redirect capabilities?

NinjaOne Remote does not support USB redirection.
