Issue
When attempting to run a backup on an Apple macOS endpoint, you receive an error message that states "Full Disk Access (309)."
Environment
- NinjaOne Decice Backup
- Apple macOS
Cause
You have not granted Full Disk Access permission to the NinjaOne Backup agent (Lockhart) on the endpoint. Full Disk Access permission is a privacy feature introduced in macOS 10.14 that prevents some applications from accessing important data. Lockhart is the name for the NinjaOne Backup agent on Mac devices. You must grant Lockhart permission to these protected areas for backups to complete successfully. While previous versions of Apple macOS allowed permission to be granted automatically, newer operating systems require you to set this option manually.
Resolution
To resolve this error, grant Full Disk Access to Lockhart on the endpoint. To grant this permission, follow these steps:
- Click the Apple icon in the top left corner of your Mac desktop screen.
- Navigate to System Settings → Privacy and Security, then click Full Disk Access.
- Click the lock icon.
Figure 2: Click the lock to make changes (click to enlarge)
- Enter your system administrator credentials, and then click Unlock.
- Click the plus (+) icon.
Figure 3: Plus (+) icon (click to enlarge)
- Select the Lockhart application from the list, and then click Open.
- If prompted, click Quit Now.
Full Disk Access is now enabled.
