FAQs about NinjaOne Desktop Companion:

My users are being logged out of the NinjaOne Desktop Companion app—is this expected behavior?

Yes; for security reasons, users are automatically logged out after:

  • 2 hours of inactivity.

  • Closing the Desktop Companion application.

  • Signing out of or shutting down their personal computer. 

In addition, NinjaOne requires the user to authenticate their identity by entering login credentials every time they launch the Desktop Companion application.

 

Which remote access tools are currently available to launch connections via the NinjaOne Desktop Companion?

You can launch connections with TeamViewer, Splashtop, or Cloud RDP.

 

Do I need to have the TeamViewer desktop application installed on my machine in order to initiate connections through TeamViewer?

Yes — the connections function in the same fashion as connections launched from the web application, so you must have the TeamViewer desktop application installed on your machine in order to successfully connect via TeamViewer.

 

Do I need to have the NinjaOne agent installed on my own machine to use the NinjaOne Desktop Companion?

No. However, the machines you wish to connect to must have a NinjaOne agent installed (the NinjaOne Desktop application will reflect the same managed machines within your regular NinjaOne web application).

 

If I log out of the NinjaOne web application in my browser, will I also be logged out of the NinjaOne Desktop application?

No — you will remain logged in to the NinjaOne Desktop application of you log out of the NinjaOne web application in your browser. You can log out of the NinjaOne Desktop application from the gear icon in the top right corner of the app.

 

Can NinjaOne technicians with custom permissions use the NinjaOne Desktop Companion?

Yes — if a custom user has access to limited organizations, their device list in the NinjaOne Desktop application will only reflect the organizations/devices that they have access to.

 

Can end users use the NinjaOne Desktop Companion?

No — the NinjaOne Desktop application can currently only be used by NinjaOne technicians.

 

Can I use the search bar to search for a device by the last logged in user on a machine?

No — currently, the search bar will only search by device name.

 

Are instances of remote sessions being initiated from the NinjaOne Desktop Companion application logged anywhere?

Yes — instances of remote sessions being initiated from the NinjaOne Desktop Companion will be logged in the Activity Feed (in the same fashion that remote connections are logged when initiated from within the web application).

 

Can I view the version of the NinjaOne Desktop Companion application without logging into it?

Yes — you can right-click on the app icon within the task bar to view the version without having to log into the application.

 

Is NinjaOne still actively developing the Desktop Companion?

Yes — There are improvements for the Desktop Companion on the roadmap. NinjaOne is and will continue to be supported in the companion.
