This article explains how billing works if you use CrowdStrike multi-tenancy in NinjaOne.
Environment
- NinjaOne Integrations
- CrowdStrike
Description
CrowdStrike uses a high-watermark billing model. This means billing is based on the highest number of devices that were active at any point during a billing month, even if those devices were only active briefly.
This behavior applies to CrowdStrike multi-tenancy and is determined by CrowdStrike's billing system, not by NinjaOne.
Key Takeaway
High-watermark billing reflects peak usage, not average usage. Once a device is active in a billing month, it is included in that month's invoice, regardless of how long it was active.
How High Watermark Billing Works
If a device is active at any point during the month, it is counted for that month's invoice.
The total billed quantity reflects the highest number of active devices observed during the billing period. Removing a device does not reduce charges for the current month.
Examples
Example 1: You add a device on January 10 and remove it on January 11. The result of this action is that the device is billed for January.
Example 2: You activate a device for the entire month of January and remove it on January 31. The result of this action is that the device is billed for January and removed from billing starting in February.
If your tenant peaks at 500 devices in a month, even briefly, billing is based on 500 devices for that month.
What This Means in Practice
You may experience the following situations, so we recommend using caution when enabling policies or rolling out agents broadly:
- Short-term or accidental deployments can still result in charges.
- Cleanup actions, such as removing devices or correcting policies, affect future invoices only.
