Fixing Backup Error 317: Unable to Request Credentials

Issue

Pre-flight checks for a protected endpoint's backup job fail with the error message, "UNABLE_TO_REQUEST_CREDENTIALS 317."

Cause

This error indicates that the backup agent could not reach the NinjaOne platform to retrieve the configured Network Attached Storage (NAS) credentials.

Resolution

You can troubleshoot this error by performing the following steps:

  1. Attempt the backup again to rule out transient issues.
  2. Ensure that the endpoint's networking environment meets the requirements described in our Global Allowlist (Whitelist) Information article.
  3. Contact NinjaOne Technical Support if the issue persists.
