Device enrollment is the process of registering and configuring devices (such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktops) into a mobile device management (MDM) or endpoint management system. This process allows IT administrators to apply security policies, enforce compliance, and manage devices remotely from a central platform.
To enroll your device with NinjaOne, follow these steps based on the type of device you are using:
For Android Devices
1. Through QR Code Scanning (BYOD, COPE, Company-Owned)
a. In the NinjaOne console, click the + sign and select Device > Mobile Device.
b. Select Android, then choose the Organization and Location.
c. Select the appropriate Usage Type (BYOD, COPE, or Company-Owned).
d. Generate a QR Code and scan it using the Android Device Policy (ADP) app or during device setup.
2. Through Zero-Touch Enrollment (ZTE)
a. Purchase your device from an authorized reseller, who will register it in the Zero Touch Console.
b. Configure the device in the Zero Touch Portal, linking it to your NinjaOne account.
c. When powered on, the device automatically enrolls and applies security policies.
For iOS Devices
Use Automated Device Enrollment (ADE) or manual profile installation via Apple Configurator.

Agentless enrollment depends on your Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) or Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution and the types of devices it supports. It is available for corporate-owned devices with built-in management capabilities that do not require additional agent installation. Supported devices include:
Android Enterprise Devices – Devices that support Android Enterprise Fully Managed or Work Profile modes.
0/Apple Devices – iOS, iPadOS, and macOS devices enrolled via Apple Automated Device Enrollment (ADE) (formerly DEP).
Windows Devices – Windows 10 and 11 devices using Windows Autopilot or Azure AD Join.
ChromeOS Devices – Managed via Google Admin Console for enterprise or education environments.
Agent-Based Enrollment requires installing an MDM agent (app) on the device for advanced management, granular control, and real-time monitoring. It’s common for BYOD and legacy devices.
Agentless enrollment utilizes built-in OS capabilities (e.g., Apple ADE, Android Zero-Touch, Windows Autopilot) for seamless enrollment, particularly for corporate-owned devices. However, deploying an agent can provide additional capabilities beyond the default enrollment process.
Apple Automated Device Enrollment (ADE) is a zero-touch deployment method that automatically enrolls Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac) into MDM during setup. It streamlines provisioning, enforces policies, and ensures device supervision without manual configuration.
