Managing Site Exceptions for Enhanced Security in Microsoft Edge Sometimes, Microsoft Edge may require a security exception to let certain websites work properly. Adding these exceptions helps you keep strong security while still getting the functionality you need. In this video, we'll show you how to add a security exception in Edge on Windows 10 and 11, how to manage your list, and what to keep in mind before rolling this out. Prerequisites to Keep in Mind Before you choose a deployment method, make sure it aligns with your organization's technical needs and overall goals. A little planning up front will help ensure a smooth rollout. Here's what you'll need: A device running Windows 10 or Windows 11, Microsoft Edge installed. Administrator privileges if you'll be using the Registry Editor, Group Policy, or PowerShell methods. Method 1: Manage Site Exceptions via Microsoft Edge Settings This method is best for new users that need support-led assistance. Open Microsoft Edge, press Alt + F and select Settings. Go to Privacy, search, and services. Under Security, turn Enhance your security on the web on or Off. Click Manage enhanced security for sites. To add a site, click Add a site under either Always use enhanced security or Never use enhanced security. Enter the full URL and click Add. To remove a site, click the three dots next to the site and choose Remove. Method 2: Toggle Enhanced Security for a Site via the Address Bar You can easily turn Enhanced Security on or off right from the Edge address bar. Use this when you want to quickly adjust security levels with just a few clicks, no menus to dig through and no restarts needed. Open Microsoft Edge. Go to the website you want. Click the lock icon in the address bar. Select Enhance security for this site. Toggle Use enhanced security for this site on or off. Method 3: Configure Site Exceptions via Registry Editor While there's no documented way to edit site exception lists through the registry, you can use the Registry Editor to configure Microsoft Edge's Enhanced Security mode for all users. Press Win + R, type regedit and press Enter. In the right pane, right-click and choose New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. Name it EnhanceSecurityMode. Double-click it to edit the value: 0 to turn it Off, 1 to set it to Balanced; and 2 to set it to Strict. Close the Registry Editor. Restart the computer to apply the changes. Managing site exceptions is an important part of maintaining your browser settings. Keeping this list up to date helps protect your organization while ensuring users can work smoothly across trusted websites.
