The first step to creating a default policy baseline is a comprehensive environment assessment. How to Set Default IT Policies for SMB Clients with No Formal Documentation Step 1 — Identify Core Policy Areas to Standardize Start by documenting client systems, domains, and cloud platforms, as well as aligning your approach with Microsoft Security Baselines and current CISA MSP guidance. From there, standardize these core policy areas: Acceptable use policies Password and authentication standards New Caption Local administrator restrictions Backup and restore policies Antivirus and endpoint management guidelines Patch management expectations Change control and incident response escalation paths Step 2 — Deploy Baselines with GPO and PowerShell Once your baseline policies are defined, the next step is enforcement.
