Overview

Next Perimeter is a managed service provider serving organizations across regulated industries, including legal, healthcare, and financial services. With clients navigating HIPAA requirements and SOC 2 audit cycles, the team delivers IT services where security and compliance are not optional features but foundational requirements. Every tool in their stack must meet the same standard they hold their own service delivery to.

Luy Teitelroit, Head of Strategy and Founder, leads the company’s technical direction alongside David Lloyd, Head of Technology, who owns service delivery, tooling, and the configuration of every client environment. Together, they needed an RMM platform capable of automating patch compliance across Windows and Mac fleets, supporting a cloud-first, serverless architecture, and keeping pace with the evolving demands of regulated-sector audits, all without requiring a dedicated engineer to keep the platform operational.

Moving to NinjaOne handed us back the equivalent of a full-time engineer almost overnight."

Challenge

When the tool becomes the problem

Next Perimeter ran on a legacy on-prem RMM for years, building their automations and workflows around it. But as cloud workloads and Microsoft 365 became the norm, the platform’s on-prem architecture fell further behind. To get acceptable performance, the team invested in a 45-drive Storinator server dedicated solely to making database queries fast enough for daily use. It still was not enough. “We built what I believe was the fastest server you could possibly deploy for that platform,” said Teitelroit. “Forty-five drives, just to make searches and scripts run. And the system would still hang. In the 2020s, that is simply unacceptable.”

Beyond performance, maintaining the platform consumed roughly 100 hours a month of senior engineering time: MariaDB tuning, scripting engine troubleshooting, agent activation failures, and raw SQL surgery when automations stalled. When something broke, the vendor often declared the configuration non-standard and declined support. “It was a full-time job managing that platform and the infrastructure to run it,” said Teitelroit. “That was an entire engineer’s worth of time just keeping our own tooling alive. At a fully loaded engineer rate, that is well into six figures a year.”

The business model compounded the problem. After years of operating as a perpetual license platform, the vendor pivoted toward hosted delivery and repriced annual maintenance to make on-prem more expensive than their SaaS offering. Moving to their cloud product was not an option: it did not meet Next Perimeter’s availability or compliance requirements. The activation server architecture introduced a separate exposure with no fix: any IP change during a failover would take every managed agent offline until the vendor’s team manually reactivated them, with no service-level agreement. “That made it impossible to write that platform into a defensible business continuity posture for clients,” said Teitelroit. “We were building security programs for regulated industries on a platform that could not guarantee its own availability.”

Solution: Why Next Perimeter Chose NinjaOne

A platform built for modern IT

NinjaOne’s cloud-native architecture was the answer. The migration was remarkably simple. Next Perimeter deployed the NinjaOne agent through their legacy RMM, then used NinjaOne automation to retire the previous platform and complete the transition with minimal disruption. A handful of scripts, and the technical work was done.

The results were immediate. NinjaOne was fast in a way the previous platform never was, and the 45-drive server, the DBA configuration work, the scripting engine interventions, all of it disappeared. “Moving to NinjaOne handed us back the equivalent of a full-time engineer almost overnight,” said Teitelroit. “That time went straight back into serving clients, where it belonged all along.” That reclaimed capacity allowed the team to focus on client outcomes rather than platform maintenance. The proactive support reinforced the decision: when the team started writing a Windows 11 upgrade verification script, NinjaOne had already released one to partners.

The scope of what NinjaOne displaced extended beyond the RMM. The legacy RMM and their backup platform were not simply vendor line items; they were internal infrastructure programs with their own engineering capacity, capacity planning, and product roadmaps. Retiring both removed entire categories of overhead. The backup platform presented a structural problem of its own: as clients migrated workloads off on-prem servers, the backup platform could not be proportionally scaled down without re-engineering it from the ground up, which meant the cost per protected gigabyte kept climbing even as the workloads it protected were shrinking. “NinjaOne quietly absorbed that entire operating burden for us,” said Teitelroit. “What had been two separate engineering programs collapsed into a single, well-run unified platform.”

Automated patching and compliance at scale

Every client in Next Perimeter’s portfolio now receives automated OS patching daily, server patching weekly, and third-party software patching through NinjaOne’s WinGet integration, all without manual intervention. “Every security framework has a vulnerability management component,” explained Lloyd. “With NinjaOne, that portion of our compliance posture is genuinely hands-off. It just runs, we trust it completely, and on the rare occasion something fails, we know immediately.” That confidence extends to Next Perimeter’s own SOC 2 Type 2 audit, where NinjaOne’s security controls are part of the evidentiary record.

The team is also evaluating NinjaOne’s native Vulnerability Management product to replace a disconnected third-party tool. “From a single platform, I can see exactly what is wrong with any endpoint, what is unpatched, when it was last backed up,” said Lloyd. “Compared to what we had before, NinjaOne Vulnerability Management is an absolute game changer.”

Zero-touch Mac management

For years, Next Perimeter managed Mac fleets without a proper MDM. The legacy RMM’s Mac agent was unreliable, and the complexity of Apple Business Manager had been a barrier even for willing clients. When NinjaOne released its macOS MDM, the team made it a standard offering. Their first major rollout was an all-Mac client that had resisted MDM for years. “The thing holding them back was not price, it was complexity,” said Teitelroit. “NinjaOne made the whole process refreshingly approachable.”

Lloyd built a zero-touch provisioning workflow using NinjaOne MDM, Apple’s automated device enrollment, and NinjaOne’s automation library. A new Mac purchased through an enrolled reseller now flows directly into the client’s NinjaOne tenant and is fully configured automatically, with no manual setup required.

“We built a true Windows Autopilot equivalent for Mac, entirely within NinjaOne,” said Lloyd. “What used to require a technician touching every machine now happens automatically the moment a device is enrolled. It is honestly remarkable.”

Remote access as a governed control

Next Perimeter previously ran a separate remote-support tool alongside their RMM. When NinjaOne Remote added background session capability, the team retired it entirely. The consolidation removed a vendor and enabled technicians to resolve issues without interrupting end users.

For a compliance-focused MSP, the implications ran deeper than vendor reduction. Remote access is one of the highest-risk vectors in the entire stack.

“What makes NinjaOne a fit for our architecture is that it integrates cleanly into the controls we already enforce everywhere else: identity-governed access, conditional policy enforcement, and telemetry that flows into our broader detection and response pipeline,” said Teitelroit. “Unifying that signal with the rest of our security telemetry is what lets us treat remote access as a governed control rather than a side channel. Ninja’s openness to that kind of integration is a genuinely meaningful part of why it works so well for us.”

Results & Outcomes

Compliance as a competitive advantage

NinjaOne has an expanding compliance footprint, including FedRAMP authorization and SOC 2 certification, meaning Next Perimeter has a vendor that grows with the regulatory landscape rather than falling behind it. “Our supply chain needs to be nimble, ahead of compliance requirements rather than chasing them,” said Teitelroit. “In NinjaOne, we found a true partner growing right alongside us. When an auditor walks in, we can speak to every tool in our stack with complete confidence.”

That posture also translates directly to new business. When Teitelroit prospects clients currently served by MSPs on older platforms, the gap is obvious. “Being a NinjaOne shop gives us a real edge,” he said. “I know exactly what our competition is working with because I lived those limitations for years. When I show a prospect what NinjaOne makes possible, the conversation changes entirely.”

A vendor evaluated, not just elected

Next Perimeter runs on the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) and measures every vendor against four core values: customer focus, operational excellence, professional accountability, and being outcome-driven.

NinjaOne is continuously evaluated against that standard. “We hold every vendor to our four core values,” said Teitelroit. “NinjaOne has passed that test time and time again, without exception. There are real people behind this product who are genuinely committed to our success. That is genuinely rare.” Ryan Frisbey, Head of Operations, echoed the sentiment: “Our technical team sees exactly why NinjaOne is ranked number one on G2, every single day. When something goes wrong for a client, we need tools that hold up under pressure. NinjaOne consistently does.”

“We are well past the honeymoon phase,” said Teitelroit, “and NinjaOne is still delivering every single day. The truest test of a vendor is not what they promise when you sign, but what they do every day after. By that measure, NinjaOne genuinely stands apart.”
