How to Turn On or Off Auto Start Voice Access Before Signing Into Windows 11 Voice Access in Windows 11 is a powerful accessibility feature that lets users control their PCs with just their voice. But depending on your environment, you may want to configure whether Voice Access auto-starts before sign-in.feature. In this video, we’ll walk through four ways to enable or disable Voice Access auto-start: through Settings, the Registry, PowerShell, or a REG file. The change takes effect immediately, but only for the current user profile. Press Windows + I to open Settings. Go to Accessibility > Speech. Under Voice access, toggle “Start voice access before you sign in to your PC.” Turn it On to auto-launch Voice Access at the sign-in screen. Turn it Off if you only want it to start manually after logging in. Click “Yes, continue” when prompted to finalize the setup. Method 2: Registry Editor This next method is for IT administrators or advanced users who need to enforce the setting across devices or manage multiple endpoints remotely. Press Windows + R, type regedit, and hit Enter. Navigate to: Right-click the right pane > New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. Name it VoiceAccessPreLoginEnabled. Set the value to 1 to enable auto-start, or 0 to disable it. Close Registry Editor and sign out to apply changes. Tip: Make sure you create a DWORD (32-bit) value exactly as shown, otherwise the change won’t take effect. Method 3: PowerShell With a short script, you can enable or disable Voice Access for the currently logged-in user. It’s ideal for enterprise automation or remote management scenarios. To run it, press Windows + X, then select Terminal (Admin). Then, paste the appropriate script: To enable Voice Access before sign-in, use: To disable Voice Access before sign-in, use: We won’t go deep into scripting syntax here, but you can find the full ready-to-deploy script in the accompanying blog post. As always, test scripts in a controlled environment before pushing them organization-wide. Method 4: .REG File Deployment This method is great for admins who prefer quick deployment without scripting. You can create and merge a REG file that applies the change automatically. Open Notepad, then use one of these configurations: To turn Auto Start Voice Access on: To turn Auto Start Voice Access off: Save either file with a .reg extension, double-click to merge, and then click OK to confirm. Before we end the video, here are a few more reminders. First, Voice Access at the login screen doesn’t expose sensitive data: users still need to authenticate to access the desktop. Next, Windows doesn’t log when Voice Access starts or stops. If you need auditing, you’ll have to script custom logs.
