How to Change the Mouse Double-click Speed in Windows 11 Ever wonder why sometimes your double-click doesn’t register? That’s all about your double-click speed. In this video, we’ll show you how adjusting this simple setting can make your mouse feel more natural and improve usability across different apps and devices. Prerequisites Before Trying the Methods Most users can easily change the mouse double-click speed through the Mouse Properties window. But for power users or IT admins, it can also be adjusted by modifying the Windows Registry. Before you start, keep in mind that these methods apply to all versions of Windows 11. The GUI method works for any user and doesn’t need admin rights. Note that the setting needs to be adjusted separately for each user account on the device, since it’s stored under the current user profile. Method 1: Change via Mouse Properties Window For this method: Press Win + R, type main.cpl, and hit Enter to open Mouse Properties. In the Buttons tab, find the Double-click speed slider. Move it left to increase the allowed time between clicks, or right to decrease it. Test it using the folder icon, then click Apply and OK to save your changes. Method 2: Change via Registry Editor This method is designed for advanced users and managed environments. To do this: Open the Start Menu and search for Registry Editor. Go to... Find DoubleClickSpeed. If it’s missing: Right-click Mouse > New > String Value Name it DoubleClickSpeed. Double-click it and set the value data: 500, which is the default 200, which is the slowest; or 900, which is the fastest Click OK, then restart File Explorer Method 3: PowerShell Script for Automation In enterprise environments, this method lets you deploy Registry changes per user profile across managed devices. To do this: Open the Start Menu, search for Windows PowerShell, and choose Run as administrator. Type this command... Replace 400 with your preferred speed value in milliseconds. Again, 200 is the slowest, and 900 is the fastest. You can easily change the double-click speed.
