Before we discuss Intune, let's talk about Microsoft's other patch management products. Understanding WSUS and SCCM will help you better understand how Intune fits into the Microsoft ecosystem, especially when it comes to patch management. The first one we'll discuss is WSUS or Windows Server Update Services. It is a free server role that allows IT professionals to distribute updates and patches across Microsoft products on their network. With Microsoft Azure, WSUS can also be used in the cloud. What is SCCM? SCCM? Short System Center Configuration Manager is an endpoint management tool for on-premises device management. Microsoft Azure allows SCCM to be cloud hosted instead. SCCM is now part of the Microsoft Endpoint Manager. However, it isn't primarily used for patch management. As WSUS fills that responsibility instead, does Microsoft Intune have patch management? Now that you know what WSUS and SCCM do, let's dive deeper into what Intune has to offer. Microsoft Intune is an endpoint management tool designed for mobile device management or MDM and bring your own device or BYOD policies. Unlike WSUS, Intune is a cloud-based solution and does not require on-premises infrastructure. Intune also differs from SCCM in that it focuses on mobile device management rather than other endpoints. So does Microsoft Intune have patch management. While it doesn't provide patch management like WSUS does it. Administrators can use policies and configurations to deploy updates in patches. Intune allows IT administrators to configure the Windows, update client policies that control and automate how and when devices are updated. Administrators can also assign update policy assignments for specific software updates. However, this approach doesn't offer granular patch management controls, so you'll have to integrate Intune with WSUS and SCCM for more robust features. Who should use Microsoft Intune Patch Management? If your business's entire arts environment consists only of Windows devices, Intune might be a good choice for patch management. If your IT team uses Microsoft tools to monitor, manage, and patch your devices, you may find it much easier to integrate Intune with other Microsoft products rather than introduce a new MDM tool. However, as we discussed earlier, in O'S patch management capabilities are fairly limited and don't give users direct control over managing and deploying patches. Intune N's primary focus is mobile device management. So with patch management doesn't extend well to other endpoints. Finding Intune alternatives to patch management Patch management is essential for strengthening your security posture. While Intuit offers some patch management capabilities and works well for Windows only environments, you may need a solution that offers more granular control or accommodates a more diverse IT environment. Ninja One, patch Management provides a more in-depth patch management solution with direct control over managing and deploying your updates. While Intune focuses on updating your systems Ninja one prioritizes detecting and patching software vulnerabilities that could lead to data breaches. It also offers cross-platform compatibility to manage your mobile devices alongside your Windows, Mac, OS, and Linux workstations from a single dashboard.
