What is NFS Network File System or NFS is a protocol that lets users access and share files over a network as if they were on their local storage. It facilitates seamless file sharing and data access across networked environments, making it an essential tool for collaborative workspaces and distributed systems. Setting up NFS before you set up NFS, make sure you have the following requirements. Reliable server hardware and network interfaces and NFS server client software. In this part we'll walk through setting up NFS on Linux, step-by-step. First install NFS server package update package lists and install NFS server using a terminal to do so, use the following commands for updating package lists for installing NFS server. Next, configure shares in slash et c slash exports. Open the slash et c slash exports file in a text editor using the command pseudo nano slash et c slash exports. Next, add export entries. Make sure to specify directories to share and access permissions with one share per line. Here's an example of a line you might use once you've added an export entry. Save and close the file. Next, you can now start NFS services. To do this, you can enable NFS server to start on boot. Restart the NFS server to apply changes. Check the status of the NFS server. Finally, mount the NFS share with your client with the following steps. Create a mount point with the command pseudo m kdr slash nt slash nfs. Share mount the share using a pseudo mount or define it via slash et c slash fs tab with a line. The last step is to verify your mount using the command DF dash h.
