Managing Edge Tracking Prevention Users can toggle Edge tracking prevention settings via Microsoft Edge settings, Registry Editor, Group Policy configuration, PowerShell, or a .reg file. This video covers the first three methods only. Configuring Microsoft Edge Settings Tweaking Microsoft Edge settings is the most straightforward way of managing Edge tracking prevention. Simply open Microsoft Edge, then go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services. Find the Tracking prevention section and toggle the switch On or Off. If the setting is enabled, you can also choose your desired protection level. By default, this setting is set to Balanced, which blocks trackers from sites you haven't directly interacted with. However, you can set it to Basic to block only malicious trackers, or Strict to block nearly all trackers. Using Group Policy Configuration via Group Policy is ideal for organizations that require uniform tracking protection across all devices. First, ensure that you have already installed Microsoft Edge ADMX templates. This method will not work without it. Then, press Win + R, type [gpedit.msc], and click Enter to open Local Group Policy Editor. Go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates Microsoft Edge > Privacy and services. Find the Enable tracking prevention policy and set it to Enabled or Disabled. Additionally, you can look for the Tracking prevention level policy to choose your protection level if you enable tracking prevention. Click OK, open an elevated command prompt, and enter [gpudate /force] to apply your changes. Using Registry Editor. Registry editor is ideal for script-based or small-scale deployments. To use this method, open Registry Editor and go to Find TrackingPrevention (DWORD) value and modify it by double-clicking the entry. Set the value to 0 to disable tracking prevention or 1 to enable it. If enabling tracking prevention, look for TrackingPreventionLevel (REG_SZ) and set it to “Basic”, “Balanced”, or “Strict” to configure the protection level. Exit Registry Editor and restart Microsoft Edge to apply the new settings.
