Windows 10 displays quick file size details when you hover your mouse over files and folders. This feature is handy for checking folder contents at a glance, but not everyone wants it enabled, especially if you're browsing large directories and want things to load faster. How To Manage The File Size Info To manage this, open File Explorer and click the View tab, then select Options on the far right. In the Folder Options window, switch to the View tab again and scroll until you see Display file size information in folder tips. You can tick the box to enable it, or untick it to turn it off. Click Apply, then OK to save your changes. If you're running Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise, or Education and want this setting to apply system-wide, you can also use the Local Group Policy Editor. Press Win + R, type gpedit.msc, and hit Enter. Navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > File Explorer. Look for the policy called Turn off the display of file size information in folder tips. Double-click it and choose Enabled to turn off the info, or Disabled to turn it on. Click Apply and OK, then restart File Explorer to apply the changes. Troubleshooting For Issues If file size tips aren't showing up even when the setting is enabled, try refreshing File Explorer or restarting your PC. Also, make sure your Windows version hasn’t deprecated this feature as some builds after version 1809 may no longer support it through Group Policy. Don't worry, turning this setting off won't affect your ability to see file sizes elsewhere. You'll still have access through Details view in File Explorer or by right-clicking a file or folder and selecting Properties.
