Understanding Alt+Tab Display Modes Alt+Tab displays all open applications, allowing you to quickly switch between tasks. In earlier Windows 11 builds, users could choose between a windowed view or a full-screen display. Starting with newer builds, windowed mode is the default, and full-screen support has been removed. On earlier supported builds (prior to build 22554), administrators and advanced users can still configure how Alt+Tab behaves using registry-based methods. Adjusting Display Modes in Windows 11 In this section, we’ll show you how to set the display mode to your preferred configuration using the Windows Registry or a .reg file. The first method is to configure the registry using the Registry Editor. Start by opening the Registry Editor, then navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\ FeatureManagement\Overrides\4\702590604 If the key 702590604 doesn’t exist, create it by right-clicking on 4, then selecting New, then Key. Ensure that you name the new key 702590604. Now, right-click on 702590604, then select New, then DWORD (32-bit) Value. Create the following DWORD values: EnabledState, EnabledStateOptions, Variant, VariantPayload, VariantPayloadKind To set Alt+Tab to windowed mode, double-click on each of the DWORD values and change their value as shown on the screen: To restore full-screen Alt+Tab functionality, delete all values within the 702590604 key. To apply changes, close the Registry Editor and reboot your device. Alternatively, users can configure the Alt + Tab display mode through a .reg file. First, open Notepad and enter the appropriate script. To change the Alt+Tab display mode to windowed, use this script: To revert to a full-screen Alt+Tab display, use this script instead: Now, click File, then Save as, and name the file AltTab_DisplayMode.reg. In the dropdown menu beside Save as type, make sure to select All files. You can now close Notepad. Next, navigate to the location where you saved the .reg file and double-click on it. The file will now merge into your Windows Registry. Restart your device to apply changes.
