(air whooshing) Accessing UEFI settings the traditional way can be frustrating. Most systems flash a message briefly during boot that tells you which key to press. It might be Delete, F2, F12, or something else, depending on your device. Miss the tiny window of time, and you're stuck rebooting again just to try. There's a better way. Instead of guessing or timing that key press, Windows gives you the ability to create a desktop shortcut that restarts your device straight into UEFI settings. Here's how to do it. Right-click on your desktop, go to New, Shortcut. In the Location field, type shutdown/r/fw. Name the shortcut something like Reboot to UEFI Firmware Settings and click Finish. To make sure it works properly, configure it to run as administrator. Right-click the new shortcut, go to Properties. In the Shortcut tab, click Advanced. Check Run as administrator, then click OK and Apply. You can also customize the icon by selecting Change Icon from the shortcuts properties. (air whooshing) Ways through command line. Prefer the command line? (air whooshing) Open PowerShell or Command Prompt with admin rights and enter the same shutdown/r/fw command. Your device will reboot and open the UEFI firmware screen with no key tapping required. If the shortcut doesn't work, verify your system uses UEFI and not legacy BIOS. This method is compatible with most modern Windows 10 and 11 systems. For more information, check out our official blog post on creating UEFI boot shortcuts linked in the description below.
